Synopsis:
Is it possible to expose Chicago’s hottest player—without getting played?
This is the story I've been waiting for all my life, and its name is Malcolm Kyle Preston Logan Saint. Don’t be fooled by that last name though. There’s nothing holy about the man except the hell his parties raise. The hottest entrepreneur Chicago has ever known, he’s a man’s man with too much money to spend and too many women vying for his attention.
Mysterious. Privileged. Legendary. His entire life he’s been surrounded by the press as they dig for tidbits to see if his fairytale life is for real or all mirrors and social media lies. Since he hit the scene, his secrets have been his and his alone to keep. And that’s where I come in.
Assigned to investigate Saint and reveal his elusive personality, I’m determined to make him the story that will change my career.
But I never imagined he would change my life. Bit by bit, I start to wonder if I'm the one discovering him...or if he's uncovering me.
What happens when the man they call Saint, makes you want to sin?
Tanya's Review:
I enjoy Katy Evans books, Remington Tate is one of my favorite book boyfriends. When I saw she was starting another series I was very excited. When I started the book my enthusiasm dwindled a little right in the beginning as the scene where Malcolm Saint and Rachel Livingston meet had me totally flashing back to Fifty Shades of Gray and the first meeting of Ana and Christian.
Here is what I enjoyed in this book. (1)Malcolm Saint, I think he is a great character, I especially enjoyed the scenes where he interacts with his close friends. Dibs..think that may be one of my most favorite scenes in the entire book. (2) The writing, I think the story flows and reads effortlessly, stayed up way past my bedtime as I got lost in the story. Just when I was totally immersed in it and could not wait to see what happens next ,the book ended! (3) Chemistry, I really felt the scenes between Rachel and Malcolm. I could see/feel them falling for each other or trying not to fall for each other.
So the one thing I did not particularly love about the story was that I didn't find it original. It kind of overshadowed the whole story for me. At first I thought oh Fifty Shades but that was only the first scene, as I kept reading it reminded me of the Kate Hudson,Matthew McConaughey movie How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days. In that movie Kate plays a reporter who is doing a story and Matthew McConaughey winds up being the subject and she falls for him. I do realize that the mysterious billionaire trope is very common now so I don't know if I am just exhausted reading about them but the story just didn't scream original to me.
Now having said all that I really did like this book and the way it ended has be biting my nails awaiting book 2 in this series. I think if you enjoyed The Crossfire Series by Sylvia Day or This Man series by Malpas or The Stark trilogy by J Kenner than this book would definitely appeal to you. Oh and I definitely would call dibs on Malcolm Saint.
Manwhore: 3.5/5 Stars
Laura's Review:
I echo nearly everything Tanya said in her review - it grabbed my attention from the beginning and I just kept reading. Sure, it was reminiscent of A LOT of other stuff out there, but a truly original romance is almost impossible to find, and I don't mind that at all as long as the details are different and the writing is well done, which is certainly is here.
It became obvious that this would be series with the friends hopefully getting their own stories to come, but even knowing that, the ending felt like a sucker punch. I feel like there is a BIG difference between cliffhangers and just leaving out a piece of the book, and unfortunately this felt like the latter. And I love Katy Evans' work, so that leaves me very disappointed because now I'll be wary of reading her stuff in the future in fear that I'll be left feeling bereft. Of course, since I got pulled into this one, I will be first in line to pick up the second book to see what happens next!
The first 90% of the book would get 4/5 stars with the ending pulling in a 2, so overall I'd give it 3.5/5.
