Box of Books Giveaway & Review: Copper Beach by Jayne Ann Krentz

Synopsis:

A rare book. An ancient code. An all-new novel from the New York Times-bestselling master of passion and the paranormal.

Within the pages of very rare books some centuries old lie the secrets of the paranormal. Abby Radwell's unusual psychic talent has made her an expert in such volumes-and sometimes taken her into dangerous territory. After a deadly incident in the private library of an obsessive collector, Abby receives a blackmail threat, and rumors swirl that an old alchemical text known as The Key has reappeared on the black market.

Convinced that she needs an investigator who can also play bodyguard, she hires Sam Coppersmith, a specialist in paranormal crystals and amber-"hot rocks." Passion flares immediately between them, but neither entirely trusts the other. When it comes to dealing with a killer who has paranormal abilities, and a blackmailer who will stop at nothing to obtain an ancient alchemical code, no one is safe.

Review:

I feel like all the recent Jayne Ann Krentz books have been missing something for me. Some of her earlier works are some of my favorites - with the eccentric characters and out-of-this-world chemistry; they somehow felt more cerebral than typical romantic suspense. Unfortunately, this one was just okay. Somewhat interesting plot involving a psychically encrypted book and many characters with those "special" abilities that have become Ms. Krentz's trademark. What was the big disappointment for me was the chemistry between Sam and Abby - or lack thereof rather. Other than a few fleeting moments of jealousy, there was nothing to really indicate they shared anything special - well, except for them saying they did. Those die-hard fans of Jayne Ann Krentz will enjoy this book and it's readability and comfort in the familiarity of her little world. For new readers, I'd start with some of her older books before picking up this one.

  4. ahh I so felt the same way about this one. She wrote some of my favorites too but this one was just not quite there for me. I thought they worked better as just partners than a couple. Have you tried the next one in the series? I haven't yet but maybe one day.
