The Look of Love (Sullivans #1) Bella Andre May 28, 2013 (Expanded Print Edition) Harlequin 384 pages |
Sometimes one look is all it takes
Chloe Peterson has vowed never to make the mistake of trusting a man again. Her reasons are as vivid as the bruises on her cheek. So when her car skids off a wet country road straight into a ditch, she's convinced the gorgeous guy who rescues her must be too good to be true.
As a successful international photographer, Chase Sullivan has his pick of beautiful women. He's satisfied with his life—until he finds Chloe and her totaled car on the side of the road in Napa Valley.
With every loving look—and every sinfully sweet caress—the attraction between them sizzles, and Chloe can't help but wonder if she's met the man who may be the exception to her rule .
Review:
Every time I pick up a Bella Andre novel, I am reminded just how much I love her writing. Not since early Nora Roberts have I felt like I wanted to devour anything an author had written so much. In fact, the Sullivans remind me very much of Roberts' big boisterous MacGregor clan - all of whom I'd adored. I had previously read book 4 in the Sullivan series last year (which I loved -- you can read my review here) and my high expectations were most certainly met here again. It's so refreshing (almost in a throwback sort of way) to read a romance novel where everyone is supportive and happy for each other. The villain is clearly marked as such and I never once wanted to throw the book across the room in frustration. Sure, maybe that isn't "real life", but I'm reading these books as an escape, and I just love how perfect the world is in them (even with nasty ex-husbands thrown in). The only thing I felt was missing was a true climax (no, not that kind of climax - there were plenty of those, believe me ;)) - it's just there was so much build up and then resolution without any great tension-filled scene - at least not one between our lovers (which are the kind I really love). Even so, I still tore through this book in a day and am already itching to finish out the books in the series I've yet to get to. I love that they are now in print too!
The Look of Love: 4/5 stars
Cover: 2.5/5 stars (I really dislike it when the price of the book is clearly marked on the cover - it cheapens the look of an otherwise classy book)
