BEA 2012!

Words cannot express how excited I am for this year's BEA! It's just two short weeks away now and I have been poring over any and all information I can get ever since they finally announced the author lineup. My list, which is continually growing, has over 100 books on it! This will be my 3rd year going, but my first as a blogger -- I'm looking forward to seeing the expo from a whole new perspective.

For those of you who will be attending, here are some guides which I have found to be extremely helpful. (For those of you who cannot attend, don't worry, my blogging partner Tanya and I are going to bring home lots of goodies to give away in the next month or so!) Hope to see you there!

  • Kirkus Reviews - "2012 BEA Big Book Guide." I couldn't wait to get my hands on this this year! Last year I got some great books I otherwise would have overlooked without their recommendations. With 100 pages of actual book reviews (not just synopses), they have sections for Children's/Teens, Fiction, and Nonfiction. Note: Some of the books they've reviewed are not being signed, so you might have to ask at the publisher's booths for copies.

  • Library Journal - "BEA Galley & Signing Guide." Lists the highlights by booth/publisher with some signings not even listed on the BEA website. A nice little side feature is an icon next to the title which lets us know which books are or will be available on NetGalley.

  • Publisher's Weekly -"BEA 2012 : Children's Galleys to Grab." A list of which Children's/Teen books they recommend from publishers at the BEA with a very short (one sentence) synopsis for each.

  • Publisher's Lunch - Their "Big Book" of the BEA, is a free ebook available in several formats including epub and Kindle, featuring excerpts from over 30 books which will be featured at the BEA. The "trade" version also includes information about marketing and how each book will be promoted at the BEA.

    1. I saw that! It is overwhelming. I think I'm just going to go in with the attitude that whatever I get, I get, and I'm going to be happy with that. If I even get half of what I have on my list it will be amazing!

  2. Jimmy Fallon. Omg. I just bought his book for my dad for Father's Day...can anyone go to that breakfast?

Also, 100 books?! I went through all the publishers I like on the app and didn't find nearly as many. Some weren't even posted. Did you find yours through the app?

And lastly, maybe we can say hi in person!

    1. Amber - We definitely should try to find a time to say hi...I bet we'll be on more than a few of the same lines! I met Jimmy Fallon last year - he was great. He actually grew up a few miles from where I live. I'm only going on Tuesday and Wednesday, so I won't be around Thursday to see him.

I found most of the books on my list by going through the search list on the BEA website/App under find authors > view all books. I found most of the 106 books that appealed to me through that...but I also found a few from reading the guides I listed. I'm really excited about the Harlequin Teen Hour which will have Aimee Carter and Julie Kagawa among others, and then Wednesday the HarpenCollins/HarperTeen booth is having a "dark days" hour featuring Veronica Roth, Elizabeth Norris, Bethany Griffin & Aprilynne Pike! So many great books all in the same place!

  3. Yes, it looks like we'll definitely see each other around Harlequin and Harper - I'm super excited about those too!

I think I'll bring his Thank You Notes 2 and carry it around with me in case I see him somewhere lol! My father definitely won't be expecting that.

Ah, I see what you mean about the books now. I found it on the app...I think I'll take a closer look at those tomorrow lol!

    1. I really liked how Harlequin set up their signings with 4 or 5 people signing and one line that moved fairly quickly. I hope that Harper does that for all those authors too. Separate lines would take forever! It looks like most of my time will be spent in the booths this year. Not as many people in the autographing area who I want to see...I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing though!
